People are asking whether business inkjet printers are truly viable in an office environment. Hewlett-Packard think that some businesses can be swayed to join the inkjet camp for a few reasons. The new business injet printers have a number of specs that challenge the dominance of laser printer technology for small workgroups. Firstly the most important preconception must be dismissed that the cost per page with laser toner cartridges is less than that of ink cartridges. This is not the case according to the Hewlett-Packard team. Some of the Hewlett-Packard senior scientists are claiming that the business injet ink costs are thirty percent cheaper than the toner costs of a personal colour laser in the same class and that if you use high-yield cartridges, they say ink costs per page could be as low as 1.5 cents for text and 7.7 cents for color and black prints.
Everyone, it seems, is concurring that business inkjet technology is poised to become the next big thing in office environments. Business Inkjet technology does indeed offer the potential for businesses to lower their operating costs. Inkjet vendors have made leaps and bounds when it comes to output durability and inkjet duty cycle to make desktop inkjet devices great for small businesses. In a lot of cases, today’s business-class inkjet devices are proving to be cheaper to purchase than the laser printers and cheaper to operate than the laser printers.
The bigger sized businesses that are truly interested in saving on printer operating costs are increasingly turning to managed print services as their solutions. Whilst these programs try to place the most cost-effective printing solutions, which is often monochrome ones, to meet business’s needs, there is still nothing about programmes that are pushing the business inkjets to meet a firm’s need for colour printing needs in the office.

When a copier company tries to bid for business , then the business inkjets are just simply not forming part of the equation, and it is suspected that this is true even of firms such as Canon and Ricoh that do offer these business inkjets. Because they are sold primarily through vendor websites, office super stores, and other retail outlets, the business inkjets are really only brought to the attention of the very smallest businesses and not to the attention of the big businesses.
So while business inkjet devices have enormous potential for growth, for that potential to be realized, the industry needs to see a revolution in how such business inkjets are sold. Or there should be a significant increase in awareness of total cost of ownership among all the right people concerned to see that the business injet printers deserve their rightful place in big business as well as small businesses.
